Miami Marlins Series Finale versus St. Louis Cardinals Recap

The Miami Marlins took to the field to try and take one game and avoid being swept against the St. Louis Cardinals, but that proved to be wishful thinking. The Marlins sent to the mound Dan Haren against Cardinals pitcher Lance Lynn.

The first two innings were close zero to zero no hits allowed for either team, then in Marlins fashion they started giving up a hit here and there allowed the cardinals to take an early lead 1-0 on second baseman Kolton Wong's double that scored Pete Kozma earning Wong an RBI.

The Marlins can say one thing that they are very inconsistent coming up with timely hits and continue to struggle with runners in scoring position. In the bottom of the third inning they had a chance to possibly add a run or two, but left two base runners stranded.

The Miami Marlins again had a chance to come through with runners in scoring position in the bottom of the sixth with two on and two out, but once again can not muster up enough offense to even add a run.

The top of the seventh proved that the Marlins right now are just not locked in and in disarray, Dan Haren was pulled after giving up another run which extended the cardinals lead to 2-0. Mike Dunn came into the game with two on no outs then a sacrifice bunt and error lead to bases loaded which then lead Mike Dunn to walk in a third run to make it 3-0, Mike Dunn has been a disappointment and has had a horrid first half to the season.

In the top of the eighth Steve Cishek comes in relief and continues to not pitch well gives up a RBI hit to Pete Kozma allowing the game to balloon to 5-0, The marlins finished the game with Adeiny Hechavarria hitting a solo homerun to avoid getting shut out 5-1.

The Marlins are a team reeling trying to find themselves, but all they seem to do is self destruct, team in danger of falling too far back after being swept by the cardinals, now find themselves fourteen games under .500 30-44. Dan Haren's final stat line, takes the loss (6-5) 6.0 innings, four earned runs and struck out six.
